Moose in Grand Teton National Park
Posted by Gale Rainwater on November 8, 2007
Hello everyone I had an absolute blast shooting moose in Grand Teton. The Teton range was socked in with clouds for several days and shooting landscape of the mountains was impossible. I found these moose in the Gros Ventre area of the park. There were several photographers and a park ranger around much of the time. These moose were definitely used to people and ignored us the whole time although we kept a safe distance. There were two bulls laying down and I was happy to see that because I had never had the opportunity to get a good shot of a bull. They layed for a couple of hours and I just waited patiently and they finally got up. Then the bigger bull challenged the younger one and the locked horns. Then a little later it just got better and better one of the bulls spotted a cow and two calves. Now the are a total of five moose to capture. I got so many good shots these are just some. If I have time I might share some more later.
Thanks for looking and any comments are appreciated. Just click the comments link at bottom.

Autumn Color From Utah
Posted by Gale Rainwater on November 8, 2007
Hello I have not had time to get out yet this week and photograph the fall color. It has been a really weird year for the fall color this year and is about two and one half weeks later than normal. Tim Ernst an I believe it is because we had so much rain in August and September that caused the trees to stay green so long. The best color I have seen this year was in Utah on the Alpine Loop around Robert Redford’s ranch at Sundance, Utah. I had never been there and was having car trouble and ended up in that area. There was really a good variety of color with reds, yellows, greens and oranges all in the same area. Hope you enjoy and comments are appreciated.

Central States Nature Photographers Fall Gathering
Posted by Gale Rainwater on November 7, 2007
Some photographers from the Central States Nature Photograpers got together for a fall gathering at richland creek campground in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. Bill Dark from Rogers, AR was the cooridinator of the event and did a excellent job securing a campsite, posting information on the forum and cooking his now famous breakfast complete with dutch oven bisquits. Bill got some beautiful images of Falling Water Creek which flows in Richland and is in the area. Tim Buchanan from Nixa, MO attended both Friday and Saturday evening and prepared some wonderful grilled BBQ chicken for me and Bill Saturday evening. Tim got some wonderful shots and posted a beautiful gallery of his photography at Richland Creek. Tom Kennon of Fort Smith, AR made it on Friday evening and also posted a great pano image of the fall color on lower Richland. Rod Kissinger also made it on Friday and got a good shot of the color on Falling Water Creek. I missed Tom and Rod on Friday and I only made it for Saturday evening. I got a nice pano of a reflecion shot of the creek and the beautiful boulders in the creek bed. I had a great time meeting and talking with Bill and Tim as we shared dinner and breakfast. Hopefully we get together and do some more camping and photography together soon.
